Justin Morrison Therapy (“I,” “me,” “my”) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits this website and everyone who works with me as a client. This policy explains what information I collect, why I collect it, how it’s stored, and what rights you have.
This policy is governed by the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of British Columbia and applicable Canadian privacy legislation.
Information collected through this website
When you visit this website, I may collect:
- Information you submit through the contact form — your name, email address, and any message you choose to share. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry and arrange a consultation.
- Basic technical information — your browser type, device type, and pages visited, collected through standard website analytics. This is anonymized and used to understand how the site is being used. I use Google Analytics for this purpose. You can opt out at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
I do not sell, rent, or trade any of the information collected through this website.
Information collected as a client
If you become a client, I collect additional information necessary to provide counselling services, including:
- Contact information (name, address, phone, email)
- Date of birth and emergency contact information
- Health and personal background relevant to our work together
- Session notes and records of our work
- Payment information [or: records of payment]
This information is collected and used in accordance with the standards of practice set by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), and is kept confidential except in the specific circumstances described below under “Limits to confidentiality.”
How your information is stored
- Contact form submissions are received by email and stored in my email inbox.
- Client records are stored using JaneApp, which is hosted in Canada and complies with applicable privacy standards.
- Email communications are conducted through ProtonMail, a secure and private platform which uses end-to-end encryption.
- Virtual sessions are conducted through JaneApp, which uses end-to-end encryption.
- Payments are processed through Stripe. I do not store credit card numbers.
I take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.
Limits to confidentiality
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC, I am ethically and legally obligated to maintain confidentiality, with the following exceptions:
- If there is a risk of serious harm to you or to another person
- If there is reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult
- If records are subpoenaed by a court of law
- If you provide written consent to release information
These limits will be discussed with you in your first session.
How long information is kept
- Contact form submissions from people who do not become clients are deleted within 30 days.
- Client records are retained for 7 years after the last session, or for adult clients who were minors at the time of treatment, 7 years past the age of majority. After that period, records are securely destroyed.
Your rights
Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information I hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Withdraw consent for the use of your information (subject to legal and professional obligations)
- File a complaint with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (https://www.oipc.bc.ca)
